Zayn Misses Out On A New No. 1 As Two K-Pop Albums Block Him

Zayn's new full-length Konnakol misses hitting No. 1 on two Billboard charts — the Vinyl Albums and Top Album Sales lists — by one space apiece. A little over a decade ago, Zayn Malik, known by the mononym Zayn, became the first of the five members of One Direction to leave the boy band. He departed in 2015 for a solo career, and in the years since, he has turned out to be the most prolific, if not the most commercially successful.

Zayn recently released his fifth album on his own, Konnakol, which reaches charts in countries all around the world. This week in America, Konnakol gets off to a very strong start when it comes to sales, and Zayn nearly earns another champion on two of the three rosters where his latest arrives.

Zayn’s Konnakol Debuts at No. 2 on Two Billboard Charts

Konnakol opens at No. 2 on both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts. The latter list looks only at albums available on wax, while the former includes those purchases as well as CDs, cassettes, and digital downloads.

Zayn’s Room Under the Stairs Set His Previous Vinyl Peak

Zayn doubles his total placements on the Vinyl Albums chart as Konnakol nearly conquers the tally, and he reaches a new career peak. Slightly less than two years ago, the multi-genre singer earned his first appearance on the Vinyl Albums tally with Room Under the Stairs. That set spent one week at No. 3, and now he’s beaten that position by just one slot.

Mind of Mine Remains Zayn’s Only No. 1

On the Top Album Sales chart, Zayn collects his third top 10, and he nearly doubles his leaders count. Mind of Mine, the singer-songwriter’s first solo effort, launched at No. 1 in April 2016. Room Under the Stairs peaked at No. 3 – just like on the vinyl rundown – while another full-length, Nobody Is Listening, hit No. 20 back in 2021.

Zayn’s Konnakol Blocked from No. 1 by K-Pop Albums

Konnakol may start in the same spot on the two purchase-only rankings, but different releases beat it to the throne. On the Top Album Sales chart, K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together leads the charge with 7th Year: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns.

Over on the Vinyl Albums chart, Zayn is bested by another K-pop release, one which is not new to the roster. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack reappears, seemingly out of nowhere, and conquers the wax rundown. KPop Demon Hunters has now spent half a year on the Vinyl Albums chart, and it returns after a new edition was released for Record Store Day 2026.

Zayn Returns to the Billboard 200 with His New Album

When it comes to the greatest number of charting titles, Zayn has performed best on the Billboard 200, the all-encompassing ranking of the most popular albums and EPs in the U.S. Konnakol debuts at No. 18 this week, landing in the middle of his releases.

Mind of Mine continues to hold as not only his sole No. 1, but also his only top 10 to date. Room Under the Stairs spent one frame at No. 15. Konnakol does manage to establish a loftier starting point than either Nobody Is Listening or Icarus Falls, which only ever climbed as high as Nos. 44 and 61, respectively.
