The Devil Wears Prada 2 not only features the return of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, it is also loaded with big star cameo appearances — with the exception of Sydney Sweeney.

Sweeney, who recently starred in the blockbuster hit The Housemaid and just returned for the third season of Euphoria, filmed a cameo for the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada, but she’s nowhere to be seen in the film. According to TMZ, Sweeney was photographed on the set of the film in New York City on Aug. 6, 2025.

However, fans’ hopes of seeing Sweeney in The Devil Wears Prada 2 were dashed on April 21 when Entertainment Weekly learned from a source that the star’s cameo in the film hit the cutting room floor — a tidbit confirmed when the film was finally screened for the press this week. As for the reason the cameo was sliced out of the fashion business sequel, EW said it “learned that the scene did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence.”

According to EW, Sweeney was supposed to be featured in a scene early in the film at the time Emily Charlton (Blunt) — Miranda’s former assistant-turned-nemesis in the original Devil Wears Prada — is introduced in the new film as the head of luxury brand Dior in the U.S.

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, who took a job with a New York newspaper at the end of the original film, is spiraling over the crumbling of traditional print media in the digital age. As such, she goes to work for her old boss, the ice-cold and heartless blunt Miranda Priestly (Streep) at Runway Magazine, which is facing its own crisis as a floundering asset in large portfolio which is seen as disposable.

Andy has different plans to help boost the magazine back to its former glory — some of which include Miranda, while others do not — but it means she needs the help of Miranda’s nemesis, Emily Charlton (Blunt). Since Emily has found success with Dior and has a deep-pocketed boyfriend (Justin Theroux), she’s in the position of helping Andy save Runway, but she can’t completely be trusted.
