Madonna: The Celebration Tour - London

Madonna scores her first hit on Billboard's Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart as "I Feel So Free," the first single from Confessions II, launches just beneath the top 10. For more than four decades now, Madonna has been scoring hits on the Billboard charts by straddling the line between electronic dance and pop. She has released albums and singles that can be perfectly classified as one of those styles or the other, but many of her beloved compositions can reasonably be assigned either label.

Billboard only introduced a ranking that blends the two, the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, relatively recently, and it is on that tally where the icon earns her first smash this frame with the initial taste of her upcoming album, Confessions II.

"I Feel So Free" Debuts on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs Chart

On this week’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, "I Feel So Free" opens at No. 12. Madonna reaches the roster for the first time in her career, though if the company had inaugurated the register years, or perhaps even decades prior, it's entirely plausible that Madonna would be one of the most successful acts in its history.

Madonna’s "I Feel So Free" Trails Adela’s “KGB”

Only two tracks launch on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart this week, and they sit side-by-side. Somewhat surprisingly, Madonna claims the lower of the two, as rising talent Adela sees her single "KGB" start at No. 11, with both cuts narrowly missing out on becoming top 10 wins right out of the gate.

Madonna Lands on a List Dominated by Women

Madonna arrives on a Billboard chart that has been dominated almost entirely by women since it was first published in January 2025, though the music magazine likely didn't mean for that to be the case when it was conceived. Of the 18 acts that currently appear on the 15-spot ranking, only one is a solo male artist. Harry Styles slips to No. 9 with "Aperture," the lead single from his latest album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.

In second-to-last place, at No. 14, comes "New Religion" by Bebe Rexha and the electronic dance duo Faithless. Currently, that group features just two members, one of whom is a man.

Madonna’s "I Feel So Free" Succeeds Largely Thanks to Sales

"I Feel So Free" performs better and launches inside the top 10 on two of Billboard's rankings centered entirely around purchases. The Grammy winner doubles her total number of champions on the Dance Digital Song Sales chart, where "I Feel So Free" joins "Vulgar," her collaboration with Sam Smith.

The track is also an immediate top 10 bestseller on the non-style-specific Digital Song Sales roster, where it launches at No. 6. Madonna earns her thirteenth placement on that competitive rundown and just her fifth top 10 smash.

"I Feel So Free" only manages to start in a lower position than on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart on the one radio list it reaches. Looking at the Dance/Mix Show Airplay tally, "I Feel So Free" boogies to No. 14.

A "Like a Prayer" Reworking Debuts on a Different List

Notably, "I Feel So Free" does not appear on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, which is relatively similar to the Hot Dance/Pop Songs tally, though there isn't often much crossover. One of Madonna's most popular compositions does land on that list, although it is not credited to her. A reworking of "Like a Prayer" by Josh Fawaz launches at No. 11.
