The Boys

Amazon

I was originally going to write something here about how after The Boys finale, Gen V should be uncancelled by Amazon, brought back to life for a third season after clear fan interest in the characters, or lack thereof, in the final season of the main series.

But it’s effectively impossible. Shows are almost never brought back to life like that, and there’s no Marie Moreau to make that happen in real life. It cost too much, not enough people watched it, that was pretty much it. I would love, love, love a Gen V season 3, but it doesn’t seem realistic.

What does seem realistic is that I think Eric Kripke is going to go out of his way to ensure that the cast of Gen V, at least the main chunk of it, is going to continue to persist in The Boys universe. He’s said as much, and the cast members are even saying things like “it’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.” But how that would come to pass has always been confusing.

Gen V

Amazon

The answer lies in a recent comment, or rather non-comment, from Kripke when talking about Vought Rising, a series that would seemingly have nothing to do with Gen V, given its setting in the WWII era 80 or so years ago.

MORE FOR YOU

This was in response to a direct question by Deadline about “bringing back some of the Gen V characters and storylines,” leading to the main ask, “Is Vought Rising going to be set in two timelines or multiple timelines?”

Kripke: “No comment…But how’s this for a vague tease; I will say that, we have a few surprises and tricks up our sleeve in V Rising.”

This is the first acknowledgment that yes, this is probably going to happen. The post-Homelander world now has Vought back on top of superhero wrangling, The Boys disbanded or retired and a new supe division being formed. It’s easy to see how Gen V, which features some of the strongest existing supes there are right now, could return for a modern-day segment. They’ve even already had a crossover, of sorts, with Soldier Boy in the past.

Soldier Boy

Amazon

There is also The Boys Mexico, which is less far along in development, and that seems perhaps less likely to involve the Gen V cast. Though I also wonder about development on Vought Rising, which already has its first trailer, and how locked that was before Gen V was ever canceled this past April. Then again, it’s been stated pretty emphatically that Vought Rising is meant to run for multiple seasons.

I do not think it is impossible to integrate what would probably only need to be the five main Gen V characters, now separated from their college storylines: Marie, Jordan, Emma, Cate and Sam, into a new storyline. Kripke and the cast are into it, and it may be his way of sticking it to Amazon for killing the show, letting them live on elsewhere. That seems like it may be the plan.
