Written and directed by David Frankel — the filmmaker behind the original film from 2006 — The Devil Wears Prada 2 was dressed for success in its theatrical debut over the weekend, earning $233.6 million at the worldwide box office. Hathaway reprises her role in the sequel as Andy Sachs, who returns to work for the devilish Miranda Priestly (Streep) at Runway Magazine as the print publication is finding itself on shaky grounds in the age of digital media. Tucci reprises his role as Runway’s fashion director Nigel Kipling.
Blunt, who played Miranda’s first assistant, Emily, in the first Prada film, is now the head of Dior’s U.S. operations, and her access to people with deep pockets may be the key to Runway’s survival.
Rated PG-13, The Devil Wears Prada 2 also stars Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Simone Ashley, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Tracie Thoms, Helen J. Shen and Tibor Feldman, in addition to large number of star cameos.

Naturally, when any film has a big opening weekend frame at the box office, talk about a potential sequel immediately begins. As such, with Prada’s 2 blockbuster opening — the film earned $77 million from North American theaters and $156.9 million internationally — things aren’t any different.
However, with a 20-year break between The Devil Wears Prada and its sequel, it’s unlikely that either Frankel or the cast will want to wait two decades to make The Devil Wears Prada 3, meaning a third film would have to be much sooner than later.
Even before the successful opening weekend release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt were asked by People whether they would consider making a third Prada.
Streep replied to People that a key element would be “the script,” while Blunt added, “A good script. It’s all about the script.”

It’s got to be the core four,” which, of course, includes Stanley Tucci. Streep then slyly joked that the four “have to be alive.”
While such an enormous break between film chapters is rare, it’s not completely unheard of. It took 36 years for the 2024 sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988’s supernatural cult classic Beetlejuice to get made, while there was a 16-year break between Francis Ford Coppola’s Best Picture Oscar winner The Godfather, Part II and 1990’s The Godfather, Part III.
Whether fans will get The Devil Wears Prada 3 is yet to be seen. In the meantime, audiences can see The Devil Wears Prada 2 in theaters worldwide.
