Mnet's GIRLS PLANET 2 (Working Title) Global Audition
CJ ENM
GIRLS PLANET is back!!!
It has been six years since GIRLS PLANET 999 (2021), the Mnet survival competition show that premiered K-pop girl group Kep1er, and now GIRLS PLANET 2 (Working Title) returns, focusing on the global market and the Americas.
As part of CJ ENM’s Music Creative eco-System (MCS) – which encompasses IP planning, platforms, and artist management, GIRLS PLANET 2 (Working Title) is one of the company’s key initiatives driving the global expansion of K-pop.
The latest group to emerge from its MCS is ALPHA DRIVE ONE, formed through Mnet’s global K-pop debut project, BOYS II PLANET, in September 2025. They debuted in January 2026 with their album, EUPHORIA, led by their title track, FREAK ALARM – the second-highest-selling debut album in K-pop history. Now, with GIRLS PLANET 2 (Working Title), the company is actively promoting North and Latin America to find a global group.

“With localized K-pop groups gaining popularity and actively promoting across both North America and Latin America, we felt it was the right time to expand beyond Asia and directly engage with audiences in the Americas,” Kim Sinyoung, Chief Producer of Mnet’s BOYS PLANET, BOYS II PLANET, GIRLS PLANET 999, and now GIRLS PLANET 2 (Working Title), said in a press release. “With that in mind, we are planning to approach every stage from casting to the program’s format, with a stronger focus on those markets. We’re genuinely excited to meet a wider range of people from more diverse regions and cultural backgrounds than in any previous season.”
Rather than create or establish another male K-pop group, the company is focused on a girl group. Since Kep1er’s debut in 2021, the company has seen an increase in talented girls who dream of becoming K-pop artists.
“That alone makes it exciting,” Kim explains. “What’s new this time is that we’re going to discover participants more actively from North and Latin America, regions we haven’t explored as extensively before. I am personally very curious to see who will appear on the program and what kind of group will be born as a result. While the format is still being finalized, the girl group that debuts through the program is set to be produced with the U.S. market in mind, and that will be reflected in the program’s concept and structure.”
