It was, for about 45 minutes on Coachella’s Sahara stage, the most internet-breaking moment of the night. During their explosive debut performance at Coachella 2026, KATSEYE brought out EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami — the real-life singers behind the fictional group HUNTR/X from Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters — as surprise guests. The combined lineup performed "Golden," the hit song from the film.

EJAE voices Rumi, Audrey Nuna voices Mira, and Rei Ami voices Zoey in the film. They joined KATSEYE — Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung — on the Sahara stage to a packed audience.

The song they performed is not exactly a minor one. "Golden" won Best Original Song at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, 2026, becoming the first K-pop song in history to win an Oscar. The film also won Best Animated Feature that night. Prior to the Oscars, "Golden" had also made history as the first K-pop song to win a Grammy, and had taken home the original song prize at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.

KATSEYE opened their set with their new single "Pinky Up," and also performed "Internet Girl" and "Mean Girls." The HUNTR/X appearance came mid-set, turning what was already a highly anticipated Coachella debut into one of the weekend's standout moments.

The Context Makes It Hit Harder

MORE FOR YOU

This was KATSEYE’s first-ever Coachella performance, and they arrived at it as a five — not six. Member Manon Bannerman announced a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing in late February. Her last performance with the group was at the 2026 Grammys, where they performed their hit "Gnarly." KATSEYE released "Pinky Up" — their first single without Bannerman — the day before Coachella.

KATSEYE was formed in 2023 through the YouTube competition series Dream Academy and became breakout performers following the Netflix docuseries Popstar Academy: KATSEYE. Earlier this year, they landed a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.

For HUNTR/X, Coachella came less than a month after their Oscars win. The pairing of a real K-pop act with the singing voices of a fictional one — performing a song that just swept awards season — was the kind of moment that makes both entities significantly more culturally legible to an audience that may only know one half of the equation.

During the Coachella performance, the HUNTR/X trio sang the main parts of the chorus while the KATSEYE girls joined them for the bridge and the outro.

Following their Coachella performances on April 10 and 17, KATSEYE is set to headline the 2026 Head In The Clouds and Hinterland Music festivals and perform at Governors Ball.

Catch KATSEYE’s Weekend two on April 17. The Sahara stage, 8 p.m. PT. For the full review of their Coachella performance, check here.
