Netflix has a bit of a problem as of late, as with many of its top shows over or winding down from Stranger Things to Squid Game, there isn’t much coming up to replace them. At least not new series. Now, for the first time in over a year, a new show has made its way to the Netflix all-time Top 10 list, though unfortunately for them, it’s not an ongoing series.

That would be His and Hers, the Jon Bernthal/Tessa Thompson crime miniseries. It has made it to #10 on the list with 98 million views and 428 million hours watched. It has knocked off the first season of The Night Agent from the list, a show that has lost a significant amount of viewership across its two follow-up seasons.

His and Hers is the first show to make the list since Adolescence became a global phenomenon over a year ago, where that show is in second place behind only Wednesday season 1, and it is ahead of the last two seasons of Stranger Things in third and fourth place, respectively.

Still, you can see the issue. Adolescence is a limited series that Netflix is trying to squeeze a second season out of. His and Hers has no plans for another season, sticking with its miniseries format. But here are the other shows:

• Wednesday – Began in 2022
• Stranger Things – Began in 2016, is now over
• Dahmer – Aired in 2022, miniseries
• Bridgerton – Began in 2020
• The Queen’s Gambit – Aired in 2020, miniseries

You can see the problem here. Only two of these shows are still airing (depending on what happens with Adolescence), and they are losing viewers. No other ongoing series has made the list in around four years now, despite countless new additions to Netflix’s catalog. In other words, they have not been able to find the kind of monster hits they used to, and the old ones aren’t as reliable as they once were. You will also notice the absence of Bridgerton season 4, plus Wednesday season 2 figures are half of season 1’s.

Of course, Netflix still has the lion’s share of the streaming market and is putting up big numbers in the context of its competitors. But it does feel like it’s having some trouble finding its diamonds as of late, and the only enormous breakouts are these two miniseries. I do wonder if His and Hers season 2 may be extracted after this kind of long-tail success, but we still have not heard anything on that front.
