Stars arrived in grand style on Monday at the 2026 Met Gala, the prestigious fashion event and annual fundraiser for The Met’s Costume Institute held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The Met Gala traditionally attracts some of the biggest names in showbiz and fashion. In 2025, the likes of Zendaya, Demi Moore, Cynthia Erivo, Lalisa Manobal, Walton Goggins, Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter attended the Met Gala, as well as Gigi Hadid, George Lucas, Sydney Sweeney, Venus Williams, Colman Domingo, Bad Bunny, Teyana Taylor, Simone Biles and Nicole Kidman.

The 2026 Met Gala got underway at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. This year’s theme is “Costume Art” and the dress code is “fashion is art.” The co-chairs for the 2026 Met Gala are Williams, Kidman, Anna Wintour and Beyoncé.
While she stars in the new No. 1 film at the box office nationwide, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Meryl Streep will not be attending the 2026 Met Gala. Skipping the gala, though, is nothing new for the three-time Oscar-winning icon, since she’s never attended the event despite being invited before.

In a statement why from her publicist (via Elle), “Meryl has been invited to the Met Gala for many years but has never attended … it has never quite been her scene.”
Amazon’s billionaire founder, Jeff Bezos, and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, are honorary co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala, after Bezos became a lead donor for this year’s event. Bezos’ involvement with the gala has been met with criticism and even calls from activists to skip the event.
