The gory horror thriller Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is reportedly coming soon to digital streaming as the modestly budgeted film continues to rack up ticket sales.

Written and directed by the Evil Dead Rise filmmaker, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy opened in theaters nationwide on April 17. In the film, Katie (Natalie Grace), the daughter of television journalist Charlie (Jack Reynor) and his wife, Larissa (Laia) Costa disappears without a trace while Charlie is on assignment in Cairo.

Eight years later, Charlie, Larissa and their family are back home in New Mexico when they receive word from the U.S. Embassy in Egypt that Katie has been found alive in a 3,000-year-old sarcophagus. After the family brings Katie home to the U.S., the girl — who is in a catatonic state — begins to display unnerving behavior tied to a terrifying ritual that she was placed into a mummified state.

Rated R, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy also stars also stars May Calamawy and Veronica Falcón and is produced by prolific horror filmmakers James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is expected to be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, May 19, according to When to Stream. While When to Stream is typically accurate with its streaming reports, it noted that Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’s studio, Warner Bros., has not announced or confirmed the release date and it is subject to change.

When Lee Cronin’s The Mummy arrives on PVOD, it will be available to purchase on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV for $24.99. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, the film should be available to rent on PVOD for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.

‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’ Is A Hit Thanks To Its Lower Production Budget

Since the film’s release in mid-April, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has earned $27.6 million in North American ticket sales and $53.5 million in international ticket sales for a worldwide box office tally of $81.1 million.

While a theatrical gross of less than $100 million would normally spell trouble for films with as high a profile as Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, the horror thriller is already a hit with an $80 million plus box office gross. That’s because Lee Cronin’s The Mummy had a production budget of $22 million before marketing costs (via Deadline), which is a relatively low number for a film produced by a major studio, which in this case is Warner Bros.

Even with 50% of a film’s box office goes to theater owners — a percentage that’s standard among most theatrical releases — Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is in a favorable state, financially. By keeping $40 million of the gross as of the publication of this article — and that number is sure to increase before the end of its theatrical run — the tally is well above the film’s $22 million price tag.

Granted, the film still a marketing spend and other costs including residuals to recoup, but given that Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is still in theaters and will make more on PVOD rentals, the film should easily reach profitability if it isn’t there already.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy will reportedly be released on PVOD on May 19.
