As KPop Demon Hunters returns to the top 10 on the Billboard 200, the album passes Prince's Purple Rain as one of the most successful soundtracks in U.S. history. Summer 2026 is fast approaching, but a quick look at the top 10 on the Billboard 200 – the chart company’s list of the most popular albums and EPs in America – makes it seem as if it is summer 2025. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack dances back into the loftiest region on the competitive ranking after a new vinyl edition of the popular project was released in conjunction with Record Store Day. Sales of KPop Demon Hunters jumped dramatically, and when paired with continued consumption on streaming sites, all that consumption helps it become one of the most popular releases in the country.

As KPop Demon Hunters vaults from No. 16 to No. 7 on the Billboard 200, the set breaks out of a tie with one of the most critically-applauded soundtracks of all time and moves up on an important historic ranking.

KPop Demon Hunters Hits a Billboard 200 Milestone

As of this frame, KPop Demon Hunters has spent a total of 38 weeks inside the top 10 on the Billboard 200. The album has only lived on the 200-space chart for 44 weeks, meaning it has only missed landing inside that tier a handful of times.

KPop Demon Hunters Passes Prince’s Purple Rain

With one more stint within the top 10 to its credit, KPop Demon Hunters ends its tie with Prince’s Purple Rain – also credited to his backing band The Revolution – in terms of time spent between Nos. 1 and 10 on the Billboard 200. Billboard reports that KPop Demon Hunters now stands out alone as the soundtrack with the seventh-most weeks inside the top 10.

KPop Demon Hunters Chases Frozen’s Record

KPop Demon Hunters will have to hold on within the most competitive arena on the Billboard 200 for nearly another month before it ties the title that sits just ahead of it on the historic rundown. The original Frozen managed 41 weeks within the Billboard 200’s top 10, and even that is a far cry from the all-time record.

Just one full-length attached to a TV series or film, The Sound of Music, has cracked triple-digit weeks inside the top 10 on the albums rundown. That bestseller, which was released more than half a century ago, sat somewhere inside that tier for an incredible 109 frames.

Here are all of the soundtracks that have spent 38 weeks or more inside the Billboard 200’s top 10.

  • 109 weeks - The Sound of Music
  • 71 weeks - Doctor Zhivago
  • 48 weeks - Mary Poppins
  • 48 weeks - Dirty Dancing
  • 42 weeks - Whitney Houston
  • 41 weeks - Frozen
  • 38 weeks - KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters Surged Following Its Awards Sweep

The majority of the weeks that KPop Demon Hunters earned inside the top 10 on the Billboard 200 were during its initial surge in popularity. The soundtrack quickly broke into the space and lived there for months, powered by multiple hugely popular songs.

Just when it began to descend, awards season kicked into high gear, and the track “Golden” – itself a No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 – won both a Grammy and the coveted Best Original Song Academy Award. All that attention pushed KPop Demon Hunters back toward the top on the albums chart, and now its Record Store Day re-release has done so yet again.

KPop Demon Hunters Returns to No. 1 on the Vinyl Chart

At the moment, KPop Demon Hunters appears on four Billboard charts, and it lives within the top 10 on all but one of them. The historic and catchy LP shoots from No. 19 to No. 4 on the Top Album Sales list and reappears on the Vinyl Albums roster at No. 1. KPop Demon Hunters only slips, and by just one peg, on the Top Streaming Albums chart, where it descends to No. 19.
