For more than 60 years, Neil Young has been writing and recording music, and throughout more than half a century, he has dipped in and out of multiple genres. Sometimes his work can be classified as rock, other times folk, occasionally country, and more often than not these days, Americana is the label used by critics, fans, and the charts.
It is on Americana rankings where his latest projects can typically be found, and it’s on one such tally that the singer-songwriter returns this week. Young's As Time Explodes — Live, a Record Store Day release, brings him to multiple rosters in the United Kingdom, and it is now one of only a few top 10s for his new backing band, the Chrome Hearts.
As Time Explodes — Live, which is credited officially to Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts, launches on three U.K. charts, and it performs best on the Official Americana rundown. That tally focuses on the top-selling titles in that one style throughout the country, and purchases on CD, cassette, vinyl, and via download stores such as iTunes are all factored into its methodology. This frame, As Time Explodes — Live kicks off at No. 6.

Under several different monikers – including as a soloist as well as with backing groups the Promise of the Real, Crazy Horse, and the Chrome Hearts – Young has placed 19 projects onto the Official Americana chart since first landing on the tally just over a decade ago. Almost all of those releases, 16 in total, have spent time inside the top 10. Many of those bestsellers – half of them actually – have led the charge for at least one frame.
It's a busy week inside the top 10 on the Official Americana chart, as several superstars – both those that are still with us and one artist who is not – debut releases toward the top. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band nearly collect another No. 1, but instead Live From Asbury Park 2024 launches in second place. Zach Bryan’s With Heaven on Top, which is steady at No. 1, blocks the rocker from running the show. Coming in one space beneath As Time Explodes — Live is another live collection, the aptly-named Live at the Paradise Theater by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
As Time Explodes — Live performs significantly better on the Official Americana chart than on either the Official Albums Sales or Official Physical Albums rankings, the other two rosters where it can currently be found. The live project opens at No. 77 on those two tallies.

Young ups his career total to 36 appearances on the U.K.'s roster that focuses on the bestselling albums and EPs regardless of format. He has nearly doubled that sum on the Official Physical Albums chart, as As Time Explodes — Live marks his sixty-sixth trip to that sales tally.
As Time Explodes — Live earns Young his first new hit on the Official Americana chart of 2026, but if the past few years are any indication of his work ethic, he may have to wait only a few more months before scoring another win. In 2025, a trio of releases by Young — Oceanside Countryside, the Coastal soundtrack, and Talking to the Trees — all launched on the same list. The first of those three peaked at No. 13, while both Coastal and Talking to the Trees broke into the top 10.
