Live 8 London - Stage

Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here becomes the band's third set to reach 600 weeks on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Albums chart — and second with one iteration. LONDON - JULY 02: (L to R) David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Rick Wright from the band Pink Floyd on stage at "Live 8 London" in Hyde Park on July 2, 2005 in London, England. The free concert is one of ten simultaneous international gigs including Philadelphia, Berlin, Rome, Paris, Barrie, Tokyo, Cornwall, Moscow and Johannesburg. The concerts precede the G8 summit (July 6-8) to raising awareness for MAKEpovertyHISTORY. (Photo by MJ Kim/Getty Images)

When it comes to selling albums, Pink Floyd is one of the most successful rock bands in the history of the United Kingdom. That statement is true when looking at the more than half-century-long existence of the recorded music business, and it applies more often than not every time the Official Charts Company refreshes its rankings.

Typically, multiple albums by Pink Floyd appear on several charts in the U.K., and the group consistently places in some of the highest spots on the Official Rock & Metal Albums tally in that nation. This time around, Pink Floyd scores multiple winners on that genre-specific rundown, and one of the outfit's most popular releases reaches a longevity milestone that only a handful of acts will ever approach.

Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here Reaches 600 Weeks

Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here slips outside the top 10 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, but the fact that it lives on the U.K.'s list of the top-selling titles in those genres is important. Wish You Were Here has now spent 600 weeks as one of the 40 most popular hard rock and metal collections in that country.

Wish You Were Here Joins Two Pink Floyd Albums

Wish You Were Here is one of three releases by Pink Floyd to hit that 600-week longevity milestone. The other two that have done so managed to rack up at least 600 frames on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart thanks, in part, to multiple editions appearing in the U.K. Sometimes, a title can debut more than once on the same tally if the Official Charts Company – the U.K.'s Billboard equivalent – deems one version different enough from other variants due to a shift in titling or a certain amount of new material being added.

Pink Floyd Claims Three 600-Week-Charters

The Dark Side of the Moon has reached the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart three times, and across every iteration, it has spent a total of 717 weeks on the list. The first version is about to crack 650 periods somewhere on the rundown. The Wall is up to a collective 629 weeks on the same genre-focused ranking. One take cracked 500 weeks not long ago, while a second edition has spent 126 frames on the roster throughout the years.

Wish You Were Here is one of only two titles by Pink Floyd to manage 600 weeks or more on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart thanks to just a single version. The Dark Side of the Moon has also accomplished that feat, though, as stated above, it has landed on the tally more than once.

Wish You Were Here Once Ruled the Rock Albums Chart

Wish You Were Here earned Pink Floyd one of its first wins on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. The band debuted four titles on the roster dated October 6, 2012. At that time, The Wall, A Foot in the Door — The Best Of, Wish You Were Here and The Dark Side of the Moon launched together.

Wish You Were Here would not make its way to the summit until December of last year. The decades-old collection soared from No. 18 to No. 1 on the chart dated Christmas 2025 and held in that position for four frames.

Pink Floyd has racked up eight champions on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. Here are all of the group's leaders on the ranking.

  • Animals
  • At Pompeii - MCMLXII
  • The Dark Side of the Moon
  • The Division Bell
  • The Early Years - 1965–72
  • The Endless River
  • Transmissions + 1969
  • Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd Fills Four Spaces on the Rock Albums Tally

At the moment, four titles by Pink Floyd take up space on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, giving the band control over 10% of the entire register. 8-Tracks, which last frame debuted at No. 2, dips to seventh place, while The Dark Side of the Moon holds at No. 9. Wish You Were Here is sandwiched in between that collection and The Wall, which slides back from No. 33 to No. 38.
