Alex Ligertwood, a Scottish singer who was a lead vocalist with the classic rock group Santana, has died.
Ligertwood died on April 30 after health battles over several years, according to The Scotland Herald. He was 79.
During his time with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist Carlos Santana’s group, Ligertwood sang lead on the hits "Winning," "Hold On," "You Know That I Love You" and "All I Ever Wanted." Since Santana uses different lead singers on his songs, Ligertwood made five different appearances with the group from 1979 to 1994.

Ligertwood’s widow, Shaun Brogan, posted a tribute to her husband on Sunday on The Brogan Agency Facebook account.
“It’s with great sadness and heartache to announce the passing of my sweet dear Alex Ligertwood, my husband of 25 years, we knew each other for 36 years,” Brogan wrote in an announcement on Facebook. “Alex passed peacefully in his sleep with his doggy Bobo by his side yesterday.

"Alex was loved by so many. If you knew him, you loved him. He touched so many with his extraordinary voice. He was all heart and soul. His favorite thing in life was to make music, sing and to share his gift with us. He performed his last show just two weeks ago. I’m grateful for that. He did it his way, on his terms, till the end.”
Brogan ended her post by writing, “I will always love you, my sweet Alex. Rest in peace. Soar and sing with the angels, my love. Please keep me & his family, Lynn & Stewart Locke, Alex, Jenny, Kali, Merci & Marilo in your prayers.”

In addition to singing lead vocals with Santana, Ligertwood was a co-writer on five Santana songs, including "Brightest Star," "Make Somebody Happy" and "Somewhere in Heaven."
Alexander John Ligertwood was born on Dec. 18, 1946, in Drumchapel, Glasgow, Scotland. Ligertwood began playing guitar in the 1950s as the skiffle craze took off, the Scotland Herald reported.

“It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I must share the news that my dear friend and fellow traveller on The Oblivion Express, Alex Ligertwood, has passed away,” Auger wrote in a post on his X account on Saturday. “The big band in the sky just got infinitely better with Alex’s arrival.”
