BTS Manages A First In More Than A Decade For A Group In ...

BTS's Arirang is the first album from a group to lead the Billboard 200 for three weeks in more than a decade, since Babel by Mumford & Sons. Three weeks after it debuted on the Billboard charts, BTS's first album in several years, the highly-anticipated Arirang, is still present at No. 1 on multiple tallies. Almost all of the songs featured on its track list – which became at least momentary hits in their own right – have largely fallen down many of the most important rankings in the United States, but fans of the South Korean septet have ensured that Arirang remains a bestseller and top performer.

As the K-pop effort once again leads the Billboard 200, which details the most consumed albums and EPs in the nation, BTS manages a feat no band has accomplished in more than a decade.

BTS’s Arirang Keeps at No. 1 for a Third Straight Week

Arirang is steady atop the Billboard 200 for its third consecutive frame. The full-length arrived at No. 1 in early April, moving 641,000 equivalent units. In its second frame at the summit, Arirang shifted another 187,000 copies between sales and streaming activity. In the most recent tracking period, which is reflected on the current Billboard charts, the latest by BTS moved another 124,000 equivalent units – a fraction of its opening figure, but still enough to outpace Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem. That former leader returns to the runner-up spot as it approaches its first year on the Billboard 200.

BTS Matches Mumford & Sons

Arirang became the first of BTS's seven No. 1 albums to spend more than one week ruling when it held on for a second turn, and it's also the first from the group to live in the penthouse for three frames. Billboard reports that it's been more than 10 years since an album by a group spent at least a trio of turns on the throne.

MORE FOR YOU

The music magazine notes that Babel by Mumford & Sons racked up a total of five stints in the driver's seat, beginning in 2012, when the English rockers debuted at No. 1. Babel ruled for three weeks in a row during the height of the Mumford & Sons craze, and then began to drift. The following year, Babel found its way back to the peak position after it claimed the Album of the Year Grammy, and it managed two more periods in the spotlight. No other project credited to non-soloists has dominated in that fashion in the nearly decade and a half since then.

BTS’s Arirang Dominates Multiple Billboard Charts

In addition to the Billboard 200, Arirang is a non-mover at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, which is focused entirely on purchases, while the Billboard 200 also incorporates streaming activity in its methodology. BTS dances back to the peak position on the Vinyl Albums tally as well, where Arirang climbs from No. 3 to No. 1.

The only roster where Arirang is not in charge is the Top Streaming Albums chart. On that tally – where BTS earned its first leader less than a month ago as its most recent studio project debuted – the group can currently be found at No. 4.

BTS’s Arirang Ties the Band’s Longest Run at No. 1

Arirang marks BTS's first multi-week champion on both the Billboard 200 and Vinyl Albums chart, but not on the Top Album Sales list. As it holds steady for a third frame, Arirang ties BTS's Be, which also spent a trio of periods as the bestselling release in America, and which has held the honor of being the most successful from the band for years. If Arirang can earn one more turn at No. 1, or perhaps slip and then return, it will become the Grammy-nominated act's longest-running champion yet.
