"What I've Done" becomes Linkin Park's second song to spend 520 weeks, a full decade, on the U.K.'s Official Rock and Metal Singles chart following "Numb." In the United Kingdom, there are a handful of charts that are focused on the bestselling songs in sometimes one genre and in other cases multiple related styles. It’s not unusual for the same singles to hold on those lists for months, if not years, at a time, and some of the biggest tracks in hip-hop or rock can continue to perform well enough to appear for incredible lengths of time.

Linkin Park is often one of the most successful acts on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart. The nu metal and hard rock group usually claims several slots at once, and a handful of tunes by the Grammy winners have racked up hundreds of stays on those lists. This time around, one of Linkin Park’s biggest smashes reaches a very rarely-seen milestone – one which the band has only reached once before.

Linkin Park’s “What I’ve Done” Hits a Decade as a Bestseller

“What I’ve Done” declines slightly on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart this week, slipping from No. 21 to No. 23. As it holds on, the cut reaches 520 frames, or exactly a decade, as one of the 40 bestselling rock, hard rock, or metal tracks throughout the U.K.

“Numb” Remains the Band’s Longest-Running Hit

For most acts, keeping any song on any list for a decade would be a once-in-a-lifetime showing, but Linkin Park has managed the feat before. “Numb” remains the group’s longest-charting success, and it is in a very distant first place. That tune, which currently ranks as the group’s loftiest placement on the tally, is up to 942 stays somewhere on the style-specific roster.

MORE FOR YOU

“One Step Closer," “Numb," “Faint” and “Crawling”

Another four songs by Linkin Park have lived on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart for triple-digit weeks, but none have come close to matching the success of either “What I’ve Done” or “Numb.” “One Step Closer” is up to 191 frames, and it is followed by “New Divide” (158), “Faint” (143), and “Crawling” (112).

Linkin Park’s “New Divide” Ruled For 13 Weeks

Linkin Park is one of the most successful acts of all time on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart in many regards, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to the total accumulation of No. 1s. The band has racked up 14 champions, including “What I’ve Done.” The single, which will turn 20 next year, spent five of its 520 weeks on the tally ruling. That is one of the longer runs at the summit for any Linkin Park track, though it does not stand out as the group’s longest-running leader. That honor belongs to “New Divide,” with a lucky 13 turns in the spotlight.

Here are all of Linkin Park’s No. 1s on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart.

  • "Bleed It Out"
  • "Burn It Down"
  • "High Voltage / Points of Authority"
  • "In the End"
  • "Lost"
  • "New Divide"
  • "Numb"
  • "Papercut"
  • "Rolling in the Deep"
  • "Somewhere I Belong"
  • "The Catalyst"
  • "The Emptiness Machine"
  • "Until It’s Gone"
  • "What I’ve Done"

Linkin Park Claims Six Current Hits in the U.K.

Linkin Park scores more hits on this week’s Official Rock and Metal Singles chart than any other artist. The group claims half a dozen wins this frame, and all of them have spent more than a year on the tally. “Numb” is the outfit’s only top 10 and highest-rising smash, while “What I’ve Done” fits somewhere in the middle.

Here are all of Linkin Park’s current smashes on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart.

  • No. 7 - “Numb”
  • No. 13 - “Somewhere I Belong”
  • No. 14 - “Faint”
  • No. 23 - “What I’ve Done”
  • No. 27 - “The Emptiness Machine”
  • No. 33 - “One Step Closer”

Queen, Bon Jovi, and Guns N’ Roses Live Inside the Top 10

Smashes that reach the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart tend to either live on the list for a few weeks or years, and the tally lends itself to incredibly long stays. Of the 40 tunes that are present at the moment, 24 have spent a decade or more as bestsellers. That includes the entirety of the top 10, where cuts by artists like Queen, Bon Jovi, and Guns N’ Roses, among others, have held on for 900 frames or more.
