Darby Allin beat MJF in a matter of seconds, hitting four consecutive Coffin Drops and a headlock takeover for the win. Allin began the furious assault with a low blow in response to a low blow delivered by MJF to begin the match.
Darby Allin vs. MJF was announced to start the show, but MJF ghosted everybody before and after his match this past Sunday, so he had no idea he was booked to defend his world title against Darby Allin. A frazzled MJF came down to the ring in a suit and refused to participate. Tony Khan, via Bryan Danielson, announced that this match would instead main event Dynamite.
MJF and Darby went on at 7:00 PST, which is typically when AEW Dynamite is supposed to end, but unlike last week’s broadcast that went 20 minutes past the hour, tonight’s main event ended in just a couple minutes. The AEW locker room, including Sting, emptied out and celebrated with Darby Allin on their shoulders.
After feuding with the Death Riders in the early months of 2026, Darby Allin turned his attention to MJF. AEW’s simple, long-term story has been one with several challengers coming out of the woodwork in search of MJF and his AEW World Heavyweight Championship, also known as the Triple B.

Kenny Omega, Hangman Adam Page, Swerve Strickland, Andrade El Idolo, Tommaso Ciampa, Kevin Knight and now Darby Allin have all made their intensions clear of dethroning MJF. Weeks ago, Darby threw his name in the hat, and due to his winning ways, Darby was promised a world title shot if he beat the similarly surging Andrade El Idolo at AEW Dynasty.
Many would argue that Andrade is a superior choice to dethrone MJF, myself included, amidst an entertaining new gimmick where the former WWE Superstar undresses himself and/or takes selfies with models in the crowd. Andrade’s popularity even inspired the first “take your pants off” in AEW history at AEW Dynasty before Andrade came up short against Allin. Three nights after another successful title defense for MJF at AEW Dynasty, Darby successfully pulled the sword out of the stone to become the new AEW world champion, if not temporarily.
MJF’s return to AEW and world title win translated to higher viewership according to the otherwise dubious Nielsen ratings. Viewership for AEW Dynamite has declined in each of the last three weeks, but its 765,000 viewers for Dynamite’s March 18 broadcast was the biggest total viewership in over a year. Darby Allin’s feel-good victory in his hometown feels like a short-term decision as AEW would be unwise to move on from MJF’s current momentum as world champion.
Though AEW presents itself as a gritty, progressive alternative to WWE, it has a world championship pedigree that would make the manosphere salivate. WWE is in the midst of a Black renaissance with Oba Femi, Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, Lash Legend and the stars of the AfricaNXT Era set to compete in their first WrestleManias this week. The influx of Triple A has led to popularity among hispanic talent such as Dragon Lee, Penta and Dominik Mysterio, who was a made man before WWE’s Triple A acquisition.
Not only has AEW never had a women’s match main event a PPV, but eight of its 10 world champions have been white men. Between this and AEW’s “F Ice” chants dying down, AEW feels like the last bastion of white excellence in national pro wrestling. In fact, that very white excellence is why Darby’s world title is likely to be short-lived.
AEW All In emanates from London in Wembley Stadium, and the biggest open secret in AEW is that this will be the coronation of hometown hero Will Ospreay, who hails from Essex, England. Whether it’s MJF getting his belt back ahead of All In or Ospreay dethroning Allin, the AEW World Championship is going to spend more time around Caucasians than an umpire at a pickleball court.
