Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano are the two foremost trailblazers for women’s mixed martial arts. Now, the two disruptors will do battle in a superfight for Jake Paul’s disruptor promotion MVP MMA, which showcases a loaded card of former UFC champions and future MMA superstars.
Rousey has been adamant about wanting to break the domestic viewership record for an MMA fight, which currently stands at 9.5 million for Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos fight on FOX on November 12, 2011. The bout currently has almost 15,000 tickets out, which is a strong number for the debut of a secondary MMA promotion.
Public weigh-ins saw Nate Diaz toking up while Gina Carano was playfully dancing around in between workouts, admitting that this version of Gina has finally let go of pre-fight anxieties that limited her training before. “I just wish I would have been able to do that when I was first fighting," said Carano during a media roundtable on Wednesday. "Just let myself be free and natural with no inner thoughts or anxiety holding me back. I felt great training during the public workout, and I am having fun.”

Rousey has made headlines with her trash-talking, but none of it has been directed toward Carano. Instead, Ronda has taken aim at fellow judoka Kayla Harrison and UFC executive Hunter Campbell. Rousey admitted her stint in WWE helped her develop confidence in speaking at press conferences.

“I learned so much from Paul Heyman," said Rousey about the WWE Hall of Fame manager. "He told me ‘no matter what you’re saying, always bring it back around to the fight. You’re always trying to sell the fight and always end on the best line.”
