Division Series - St Louis Cardinals v Los Angeles Dodgers - Game One

The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their fourth game in a row on Tuesday, falling to the division rival San Francisco Giants as their star-studded batting order suddenly goes cold.

The team hasn’t scored more than three runs in its last five games and there appears to be plenty of blame to go around.

“They’ve scored two runs or fewer in 8 of their last 13. It has not been a fun run of baseball lately for the back-to-back champs,” The Athletic’s Katie Woo noted on X, formerly Twitter, after Tuesday’s loss. “The last time the Dodgers lost four straight games by at least four runs was July 1-4, 1936.”

Despite the slump, the Dodgers have plenty of reason to believe they can return to the World Series after capturing last year’s title in an extra-innings thriller against the Toronto Blue Jays. And, as the team works through its offensive issues, fans got a reminder from a former star player who has continued his career north of the border.

Los Angeles Dodgers Former Star Yasiel Puig Turns Heads With Toronto Debut

“Turns out Yasiel Puig can still smash a baseball,” Amber Harding wrote for Fox News. “The former MLB All-Star made his debut Sunday for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the Canadian Baseball League (CBL). And he looked an awful lot like the electric version of Puig that baseball fans remember from his Dodgers days.”

Puig went two-for-two with two home runs, four RBI and two walks in a win for his new team, reminding some Dodgers fans of the bat he swung during his 2014 All-Star campaign with the team. But it would be an understatement to say that Puig is far from the same outfielder he was more than a decade ago, particularly as he faces sentencing in Los Angeles following a recent guilty verdict.

“Three months ago, Puig was found guilty of obstruction of justice and providing false statements related to a January 2022 interview with investigators looking into the gambling ring,” Dan Robson reported for The Athletic. “He faces up to 15 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 26 in California.”

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Former All-Star Yasiel Puig Sends Sentencing Message After Toronto Debut

With that sentencing looming, it’s unclear how long Puig might be able to stay with his new team. But, following an impressive debut in Toronto, he broke his silence about the looming court date.

“I don’t have plans, God made the plan for me, I don’t know,” Puig told Robson. “I need to go to Los Angeles and later come back, only God knows what will happen…”
