“Toy Story 5” logged the best preview performance of the year on Thursday, according to multiple reports, generating $17.5 million at the box office as it is expected to make up to $175 million this weekend alone.

The $17.5 million brought in on Thursday marks the best preview ever for the “Toy Story” franchise and is the second-best preview of all time for an animated movie behind “Incredibles 2,” which drew $18.5 million in 2018, Deadline reported.
“Toy Story 5” is expected to bring in anywhere between $140 million and $175 million this weekend, according to Deadline and Variety, the latter of which noted the new movie is poised to outperform the $120 opening for “Toy Story 4.”
The Pixar animated feature has a 94% score from critics and audiences, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes.
Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” has led the domestic box office this week, generating $61.2 million as record-shattering horror flick “Obsession” brought in $32.2 million, according to Deadline.

“Toy Story 5” marks the beginning of what is shaping up to be a strong summer for the box office. In less than a month, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” will arrive in theaters after secondhand tickets for some IMAX 70mm screenings of the movie were listed for as high as $1,000 on eBay this month. After his last movie, “Oppenheimer,” brought in nearly $1 billion worldwide, Nolan’s latest epic is expected to perform just as well, if not better, than the biographical thriller. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will release just two weeks after “The Odyssey” reaches theaters. After tickets for the Marvel flick dropped this week, it posted the best first-day pre-sales in five years, Deadline reported.
