Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:
Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

I started off with a pretty lousy opener, but SPATE wouldn’t hold me back from greatness today. CHOIR slashed 258 words down to just 5 and I could only come up with a few. I chose VOCAL and got very, very lucky.

The Bot did not get lucky. I’m honestly shocked it made so many similar tries. Usually it doesn’t just keep guessing over and over like this replacing one letter and today it took five whole tries! That’s -1 for the Bot for guessing in five and -1 for losing to me, or -2 x 2 = -4 points. I get 1 for beating the Bot and 1 for guessing in three, which ends up being 4 points for 2XP Friday. Poor Bot!
Erik: 23 points
Wordle Bot: 4 points
“Vocal” comes from Latin vocalis, meaning “of the voice” or “speaking,” from vox (voc-), meaning “voice.” It entered English in the 16th century relating to spoken or sung sound.
