Michael Jackson

After his biopic, Michael, took over theaters all around the world, Michael Jackson’s music surged in popularity. Fans everywhere will seemingly take any excuse to return to the singles and albums that made him the biggest name in pop music history, and while the late superstar can regularly be found on a number of Billboard charts, he often hangs on with just one compilation or a single album, or perhaps one or two beloved songs.

This week, several Jackson classics return, and two of his most famous smashes reach new high points. One gargantuan hit even debuts on a tally it’s never seen before, and it lands right behind a surging favorite.

“Beat It” Debuts on One Billboard Chart

Jackson currently fills two spaces on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the top-selling tracks that the music magazine labels hip-hop, R&B, or rap. “Billie Jean” is his highest-ranking win at the moment, and as it pushes from No. 15 to No. 11, the cut establishes a new high and nearly nets the King of Pop a top 10 hit.

At the same time, “Beat It” debuts on that tally at No. 12. Only “Billie Jean” keeps it from soaring even higher, and Jackson claims his two wins back-to-back.

Michael Jackson Claims Multiple Spots on the Same List

Jackson is currently one of only two musical acts that fill multiple spaces on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. Eddie Dalton, an artificial intelligence-powered project masquerading as a person, beats Jackson twice over, with four bestsellers. Amazingly, all of those songs – “Somewhere Along the Way” (No. 2), “Stay a Little Longer” (No. 5), “Running to You” (No. 9), and “Dreaming of You” (No. 10) – sit inside the top 10.

Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” Returns to Multiple Rankings

“Beat It” currently appears on four rosters shared by Billboard, and the tune manages an exciting showing on each and every one of them. As it debuts on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, “Beat It” returns to the R&B Digital Song Sales list, a slightly more specific version of the aforementioned purchase-only tally. “Beat It” breaks back onto the roster of the bestselling R&B cuts in the nation at No. 10, returning to its all-time high.

“Beat It” also finds its way back to the Billboard Global 200 at No. 127, a new peak, which it establishes in just its second turn on that worldwide rundown. “Beat It” sat at No. 163 last week on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. – which is compiled in the exact same manner as the Billboard Global 200, only streams and sales from American consumers are not part of its methodology. Now, “Beat It” moonwalks to No. 111, which is also now the peak for the track.

Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” Reaches New Highs Globally

“Billie Jean” only hits its new high on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, but it manages to land in loftier spaces and on more tallies than “Beat It.” “Billie Jean” settles in one space ahead of “Beat It” on the R&B Digital Song Sales ranking and returns to the R&B Streaming Songs register at No. 13. The Thriller smash pushes north on both the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. (No. 64) and the Billboard Global 200 (No. 65), though unlike “Beat It” on those same two tallies, those positions do not now stand as the all-time peaks for the single.

Michael Jackson’s Number Ones Climbs to a New Chart High

Jackson’s Number Ones compilation climbs on multiple rankings and dances to a newly-set high of No. 21 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Jackson fills two spaces on only the Top Album Sales tally, where both Number Ones and Thriller can be found, though the two titles are on the decline.
