The Zendaya- and Robert Pattinson-led film The Drama has made an unusually early digital debut, arriving just a month after its theatrical release. While studios typically wait at least 45 days before releasing films on digital platforms, the A24 title became available after just 32 days.
Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the A24 feature follows Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Pattinson), an engaged couple preparing to tie the knot. However, during their wedding week, their plans are thrown off course when one of them reveals an explosive, dark secret.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March, Borgli described the film as “a very chaotic love story” but didn’t place it in a specific genre. Much of the controversy around the film stems from the shocking secret at the center of the plot, which has been intentionally kept hidden in the trailer and marketing. While it’s presented as a lighthearted romance, the reality is much more sinister.

“We want the audience to go through the same experience as the characters in the movie, where they get to be surprised by something,” Borgli said, explaining the decision to keep the secret under wraps from moviegoers. “So we’re trying to hold that reveal sealed to protect the best experience watching the movie.”
At the time of its digital release, The Drama is still playing in theaters. The film has crossed the $100 million worldwide box office milestone, earning $46.9 million domestically and $69.7 million internationally, according to Box Office Mojo.
The film holds a solid 77% critics’ score and 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review for the New York Post, entertainment critic Johnny Oleksinski wrote that "Much of The Drama is gripping, quite stressfully so, and it’s sometimes stomach-churning in the topical subjects it touches.”

The Drama is now streaming on digital video-on-demand platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango At Home. The Drama can be purchased for $24.99 or rented for $19.99. For rentals, viewers have 30 days to start watching the video and 48 hours to finish once the movie starts.
The release date for 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD has not been announced yet.

Because The Drama is distributed by A24, the dark comedy is expected to stream on HBO Max, though an official release date has not been announced. In January, HBO Max and A24 renewed their multi-year partnership, ensuring the studio’s films will stream exclusively on HBO and HBO Max during the Pay-1 window in the U.S.

The Drama is expected to arrive on HBO Max within three to five months of its theatrical debut. The film premiered on April 3, 2026, so its streaming release will likely be in July or September 2026.
A24’s HBO Max release timelines have varied in recent years, with the studio’s biggest box office performers typically taking longer to reach the platform. For example, Marty Supreme, A24’s highest-grossing film of all time, arrived on HBO Max on April 24, 2026, nearly five months after its Christmas Day theatrical release.
The Smashing Machine landed on the platform on Jan. 23, 2026, more than three months after its Oct. 3 theatrical release, while the award-winning The Brutalist followed a similar pattern to Marty Supreme, premiering on HBO Max in May 2025, roughly five months after its December 2024 debut.
