68th GRAMMY Awards - Show

"Apt.," the Grammy-nominated smash by Bruno Mars and Blackpink star Rosé, returns to the U.K.'s main singles ranking, seemingly defying a chart rule. The Official Charts Company, the United Kingdom’s version of Billboard, which publishes the rankings of the top-performing, top-selling, and most-streamed albums and songs throughout the country each week, instituted a rule several years ago that only allows each artist serving as the lead on a tune to fill a trio of spaces on the Official Singles chart. There are only a few workarounds that can see a famous name appear with more than a trio of tracks, and Bruno Mars manages the rarely-seen performance this frame, as one of his most successful collaborations once again ranks as one of the 100 most-consumed cuts in the nation.

Bruno Mars and Rosé’s “Apt.” Returns to the Main Singles List

“Apt.,” Mars’s Grammy-nominated team-up with Blackpink member Rosé, finds its way back to the Official Singles chart this frame. The tune, performed in both English and Korean, reenters at No. 80, and it joins three additional smashes by the same chart-topper.

Bruno Mars Claims Four Smashes Thanks to Collaborations

Mars fills four rungs on the Official Singles chart this time around, but he is credited as a co-lead on two of those compositions, while the other two are solo entries. The fact that he is not the only lead act on a pair of cuts allows him to occupy a greater number of rungs than is often allowed.

“I Just Might,” the first track shared from his recent album The Romantic, climbs from No. 33 to No. 26. “Risk It All,” the second official single from that full-length, nearly finds its way back into the top 40, but instead settles at No. 45.

“Die With a Smile,” which preceded “Apt.” by several months and which also ranks as one of the most commercially successful collaborations in recent memory, is somehow still a top 40 smash in the U.K. Last time around, “Die With a Smile” – which did win both Mars and Lady Gaga a Grammy – sat at No. 39. Just when it looked as if it was about to tumble outside the most important region, it reverses its path and climbs to No. 35, 76 weeks into its time on the tally.

“Die With a Smile” Remains a Top 40 Hit

None of Mars’s currently-charting hits on the Official Singles chart have reached No. 1, though two have ruled the Billboard Hot 100 in America. Both “Die With a Smile” and “Apt.” missed the mark by just one space, while “I Just Might” climbed as high as No. 5. “Risk It All” has yet to enter the top 10.

“I Just Might,” “Die with a Smile” and “Risk It All”

“I Just Might” and “Die With a Smile” can also be found on the same quartet of charts as “Apt.,” and just like that duet with Rosé, Mars’s songs are almost entirely on the rise. The only one of the superstar’s current wins in the U.K. that cannot be found on all four tallies is “Risk It All,” though even that composition manages a minor comeback. As it sits just beneath the top 40 on the Official Singles chart, “Risk It All” reenters the Official Streaming rundown in last place, at No. 100.
