Empire State Building Hosts K-Pop Group BTS

BTS pushes its current single "Swim" to a new high on Billboard's Adult Pop Airplay chart. "Swim" ties "Butter" for a historic record among K-pop acts. For the past month, “Swim,” the latest single by BTS, has been performing well across a number of Billboard charts. As it reaches five frames on multiple tallies, the track – the first promotional cut pushed from the group’s comeback album Arirang – holds inside the top 10 on a handful of lists, while largely declining on others.

“Swim” manages to improve on just one tally in America, and as the single ascends, it helps BTS tie a previous smash and rank among the highest-charting tunes by K-pop bands of all time on one roster.

BTS’s “Swim” Climbs on Adult Pop Airplay Chart

Five weeks into its time on the Adult Pop Airplay chart – one of three rosters published by Billboard that focus on the most successful songs at various forms of pop radio – “Swim” glides north. This time around, the BTS cut lifts from No. 16 to No. 14. That’s a small improvement, but a meaningful one.

BTS’s “Swim” Matches “Butter” on Adult Pop Airplay

Now that “Swim” has surged as high as No. 14 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, the song ties as one of the fifth-highest-rising tunes by any K-pop group in the history of the ranking. “Swim” is now on the same level as BTS’s previous single “Butter,” which topped out at No. 14 several years back.

Before this week, “Butter” stood alone as the fifth-highest-rising track by any non-soloist in the K-pop space when it comes to the Adult Pop Airplay chart, and now it shares that honor.

BTS’s “Swim” Joins Top K-Pop Radio Hits

Four songs credited either solely to K-pop groups or which name a band from South Korea have climbed to more impressive positions than either “Butter” or “Swim.” Only one track that can be classified as K-pop has hit No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay tally, and it managed to do so just last year. “Golden,” the Grammy and Oscar-winning blockbuster from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, beat Rosé and Bruno Mars’s “Apt.” when it surged all the way to the summit. That Grammy-nominated collaboration peaked at No. 2.

BTS worked with Coldplay on “My Universe,” which stands as the second-highest-ranking tune by any K-pop group thanks to its No. 8 high. K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty took “Cupid” all the way to No. 9. BTS is the only K-pop band to claim multiple top 10s on the Adult Pop Airplay list. In addition to “My Universe,” the band’s own “Dynamite” topped out in tenth place.

BTS’s “Swim” Holds on Adult Contemporary Chart

The Adult Pop Airplay chart is the only Billboard roster where “Swim” continues to rise. The song manages to hold at No. 20 on the Adult Contemporary roster, down a few pegs from its No. 16 peak.

“Swim” is on the decline on two other radio rosters, as it backtracks to No. 14 on the Pop Airplay chart, down one space from its No. 13 high, while simultaneously declining to No. 26 on the all-genre Radio Songs rundown.

“Swim” also falls on the Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales charts, the Billboard Hot 100, and both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Last week, “Swim” remained at No. 1 on those two planet-spanning rankings, but it is no longer in charge.

BTS Fills Multiple Spots on Global Charts

BTS only claims one radio hit in America, but the septet is far more successful on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. 13 songs live on those rosters, and each and every one of them falls from where it sat last frame.
