Once again this week, Drake proves that he is not just an American phenomenon or a superstar in his home country of Canada, but a global powerhouse. The rapper dominates many of Billboard's rankings this frame, thanks to a deluge of new music. He recently delivered three new albums – Iceman, Habibti and Maid of Honour – and dozens of songs featured on those projects launch in impressive positions across a variety of charts.
Drake conquers the Billboard Global 200, one of a pair of worldwide lists, and he nearly fills the entire top 10. His new single "Janice STFU" starts its time at No. 1, and as he earns another champion, the rapper pulls out of a tie with several of the hottest hitmakers in the music industry and ties one of the most successful pop musicians of all time.
"Janice STFU" is the standout from Iceman. The single launches at No. 1 on various rankings, including both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Hot 100, the latter of which focuses solely on American consumption. Drake lands his fourth career winner on the ranking of the most-consumed tunes all around the planet, and his first new leader in a little less than three years. He’s now ruled with “What’s Next,” “Rich Flex” with 21 Savage and “IDGAF” with Yeat.
With a fourth No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 to his credit, Drake advances on the list of the artists with the most leaders in their discography. He is now matched with Ariana Grande, and the two jointly claim the fourth-most No. 1s of all time.
Grande earned her first leader in 2020, only months after Billboard introduced the rundown with "Positions." The following year, she joined frequent collaborator the Weeknd on "Save Your Tears," which worked its way to the summit years after its initial release. 2024 proved to be her most successful period, as both "Yes, And?" as well as "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" led the charge.
Before "Janice STFU," when only three of Drake’s tracks had hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, he was tied with five other musical acts. Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, BTS superstar Jung Kook and South Korean girl group Blackpink have all amassed a trio of rulers thus far, and any of them may score one more soon, changing this order again.
Recently, BTS furthered its lead over all other artists when "Swim," the first single from the group's comeback album Arirang, hit No. 1. The K-pop boy band has racked up eight champions. That's two more than Taylor Swift, who sits in the runner-up position with half a dozen No. 1s. Bad Bunny lands one smash ahead of both Grande and Drake.
Drake sends nearly two dozen songs to the Billboard Global 200 for the first time this week, and he occupies eight spaces within the top 10. Only Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and the aforementioned "Swim," which this frame dip to Nos. 8 and 10, respectively, keep him from claiming the highest tier for himself.
Four No. 1s is impressive, but nearly twice as many songs by Drake have missed out on ruling by a single space. Seven compositions crediting the rapper either as a lead act or a featured artist have peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200. He increases that sum this time around as "Ran to Atlanta," which also includes both Future and Molly Santana, kicks off its time in second place, right behind "Janice STFU."
