President Donald Trump cast doubt on former First Lady Jill Biden’s claims she thought her husband was suffering a medical issue during his notoriously disastrous debate with Trump in 2024—saying instead that Biden “choked” because of Trump’s “strong performance.”

Mocking Jill Biden for saying she thought the former president was having a stroke or was drugged, Trump questioned in a post on Truth Social Friday why she “never rushed onto the stage to help her troubled husband, as any good wife would do.”
“The only thing she failed to mention was how well I was doing prior to his near total collapse,” Trump wrote.
Trump asked, “did my strong performance in that debate cause him to plain and simple ‘choke,’ leading to his ignominious defeat, or were other reasons the cause? Nobody else knows the answer to that, BUT I DO!!!”
Trump made the comments after The Atlantic published excerpts on Thursday from Jill Biden’s new book, in which she revealed her thoughts during Biden’s debate with Trump.
“Is he short-circuiting? . . . Is this a stroke? I felt like we were watching an AI hologram of the man we knew, and the hologram was glitching. Has he been drugged?” she wrote in “View from the East Wing,” out June 2.
“I had never, ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never . . . I don’t know what happened. As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death,” Jill Biden told CBS News in an interview airing Sunday.
Jill Biden maintained her denial in her book that her husband had shown any signs of mental decline that might have prevented him from seeking a second term. “To this day, I still don’t know what happened,” she wrote about his debate performance. She said Biden immediately acknowledged his poor performance, telling her “I really f**ked up, didn’t I?” as they walked off the stage. She told him he did, according to the excerpts published by The Atlantic. Her recent admission contradicts what she told an audience of Biden’s supporters immediately after the debate: “Joe, you did such a great job, you answered every question, you knew all the facts.”
Biden sued the Justice Department this week to block the release of audio and transcripts from conversations with his former ghost writer. The agency plans to release the materials to Congress on June 15. The Justice Department obtained the materials as part of its investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents, for which it declined to bring charges. Biden is also suing to block the agency from releasing the tapes to the conservative Heritage Foundation.
