NAB RØDE products

This year's NAB Show will see a slew of new products from Australia's RØDE.

RØDE

It’s that time of year again when the broadcasting industry descends on Las Vegas for the NAB show. The National Association of Broadcasters has been showcasing the latest in broadcast technology since its founding in Chicago in 1923, initially as the National Association of Radio Broadcasters.

The show attracts more than 54,000 attendees from 150 countries who come to see what the 1000 exhibitors are displaying. This year’s NAB takes place from April 18 to 22, and one of the exhibitors will be Australia’s RØDE, a manufacturer of microphones, mixers, and all the gadgets that make broadcasting possible.

RØDE is introducing a slew of new products, technologies and software designed to help content creators achieve more. Central to the company’s announcement is Sonaura, an innovative studio-grade MEMS microphone technology that RØDE says will underpin a new generation of professional audio products across its lineup.

Alongside Sonaura, RØDE will be showing the new RØDELink II professional UHF wireless microphone system, plus a range of new studio accessories, including the LPA1 low-profile studio arm and DS3 desktop studio arm. NAB attendees will also be able to see the new RØDECaster Studio podcast app, which uses AI to speed up the production process. RØDE’s new products will be on show from April 18 to 22 at booth C9316 in Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Sonaura is a breakthrough studio-grade MEMS microphone technology that combines RØDE's audio engineering with Infineon’s semiconductor expertise to redefine how professional audio is captured.

Sonaura Mems Microphone Technology

According to RØDE, Sonaura is a breakthrough studio-grade MEMS microphone technology that combines the brand’s audio engineering with Infineon’s semiconductor expertise to redefine how professional audio is captured.

Sonaura technology is, according to RØDE, capable of delivering exceptional audio fidelity, precision and durability in an ultra-compact form that measures just 4 x 5mm. Manufactured at Infineon’s industry-leading semiconductor fabrication facilities, Sonaura is a new class of microphone performance.

“What we’ve achieved with Sonaura was once considered impossible,” says Freedman Group’s founder and chairman, Peter Freedman AM. “We have always been relentless in our pursuit of delivering the highest quality audio, and Sonaura is not only proof of that unwavering commitment, but a testament to RØDE and the wider Freedman Group’s ethos of shattering barriers and crushing conventions.”

With a Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 83dB and a self-noise measurement of just 11 dB-A, Sonaura is capable of the level of clarity necessary for broadcast-grade sound while being far more resilient than a traditional professional microphone. It’s essentially a tiny microphone on a silicon chip.

The tiny RØDE Sonaura MEMs microphone measures just 4 x 5mm.

Microphone On A Chip

Measuring just 4mm x 5mm and built on a newly developed low-noise ASIC, RØDE says Sonaura offers a sound quality that was previously unattainable from such a small size. The breakthrough means microphones can be seamlessly integrated into applications where high-quality audio was once thought impossible. The result could sonically transform broadcasting, filmmaking and content creation.

With exceptional SPL handling, high immunity to RF interference and incredibly flat frequency response, RØDE says Sonaura can produce flawless audio recordings in almost any scenario, from controlled studio environments to unpredictable field productions.

“Sonaura is a true feat of engineering,” said Ryan Burke, Freedman’s group portfolio manager. “It’s clarity, resilience and sonic precision combined with its ultra-compact form heralds the bright future of microphone technology.”

Sonaura has been engineered to withstand extreme conditions and uses Infineon’s Sealed Dual Membrane design, which combines ultra-low self-noise with enhanced ruggedness and reduced sensitivity to physical shocks compared to conventional microphones for more consistent performance and long-term reliability.

Sonaura will be introduced across a selection of RØDE’s next-generation products starting with the L1 sub-miniature lavalier microphone from Lectrosonics. The launch marks the first step in a broader rollout of the Sonaura platform, bringing studio-grade performance to professional wireless, broadcast and production environments.

RØDELink II is the next generation of professional wireless microphone systems from the Australian company. Designed for filmmakers, broadcasters and content creators, RØDELink II uses proprietary UHF wireless transmission technology to produce high-quality sound with best-in-class range.

RØDElink II UHF Wireless

RØDELink II is the next generation of professional wireless microphone systems from the Australian company. Designed for filmmakers, broadcasters and content creators, RØDELink II uses proprietary UHF wireless transmission technology to produce high-quality sound with best-in-class range.

Drawing on the wireless technology developed by The Freedman Group, RØDELink II uses UHF transmission pioneered by Lectrosonics, a respected name in professional wireless audio. The system will offer reliable UHF performance across a new generation of RØDE products.

RØDELink II kit consists of two transmitters and a single receiver for dual-channel operation when recording multiple sound sources at the same time. Each transmitter is paired with a broadcast-grade lavalier microphone with locking connectors. The units deliver high-quality audio for interviews, productions and live performances.

RØDELink II also has 32-bit float on-board recording for capturing clean audio to a microSD card, no matter how loud or quiet the source. The 32-bit float technology ensures no take is ever lost because the recording levels can be adjusted after capture. Additionally, a dedicated timecode I/O port makes it easy to accurately align audio and video, removing the need for complex post-production adjustments.

With its rugged metal body for withstanding the rigors of location recording, along with three included removable lithium-ion batteries for extended operating time, the RØDELink II aims to redefine what’s possible with wireless audio. Complementing the RØDELink II are a range of timecode and audio cables, including 3.5mm TRS to 5-Pin and 3.5mm TRS to BNC timecode cables.

RØDELink II, along with the new range of timecode and audio cables, will be available soon.

The new LPA1 low-profile arm extends RØDE’s studio accessory lineup. Engineered for precise placement without obstruction, the LPA1 is particularly suitable for video podcasts.

RØDE

LPA1 Low-Profile Studio Arm

The new LPA1 extends RØDE’s studio accessory lineup with a professional and low-profile studio arm that’s been engineered for precise placement without obstruction. This makes the LPA1 particularly suitable for video podcasts.

Designed for modern recording, streaming and broadcasting setups, the LPA1 remains below a camera’s line of sight, keeping hosts and guests unobstructed on screen while still delivering accurate microphone positioning.

With a horizontal reach of 750mm and a wide vertical adjustment range, the LPA1 can accommodate end-address and side-address microphones. It has 360-degree rotation and silent operation for precise repositioning during recording or live broadcasts without producing unwanted sounds.

Built to support professional equipment, the LPA1 can handle loads of up to 2kg and has universal thread compatibility, making it suitable for a wide range of microphones and studio accessories. Integrated cable management keeps XLR and USB cables concealed.

The new RØDE DS3 is a compact desktop studio arm capable of precise positioning and has a refined and modern design for onscreen use. The DS3 can carry microphones, cameras, smartphones, lights and most other accessories used in a desktop environment.

RØDE

DS3 Professional Desktop Studio Arm

The new RØDE DS3 is a compact desktop studio arm capable of precise positioning and has a refined and modern design for onscreen use. The DS3 can carry microphones, cameras, smartphones, lights and most other accessories used in a desktop environment.

Fitted with a heavy weighted base, the DS3 sits securely on any flat surface without the need to use clamps or mounting points. A precision-engineered ball head provides smooth and controlled movement with a wide range of adjustment, enabling users to achieve precise positioning with silent operation so as not to interrupt live streams, recordings or broadcasts.

Made from metal and finished in either black or white, the DS3 offers a rugged durability with a bit of elegance. It has a natural cork base for enhanced stability and is designed to adapt to a wide range of equipment thanks to universal mounting compatibility with 5/8 and 1/4-inch thread adaptors and support for devices weighing up to 1.5kg. There’s also integrated cable management to keep XLR and USB cables secured and out of sight.
