The Pitt

The Pitt is heading into its season 2 finale this week, and there are already interviews going through the season, post-mortem, and looking ahead to season 3, giving fans new information.

First, on timing. R. Scott Gemmill, showrunner of The Pitt, has confirmed that season 3 will start shooting in June 2026. That is exactly when season 2 of The Pitt started filming, June 16, 2025, meaning that The Pitt season 3 is almost certain to land its January 2027 premiere date, as promised, given its very fast turnaround time for production and post-production, despite having 45-55 minute episodes, which has become a true rarity in the streaming space.

Gemmill also confirms that it will be a four-month time skip from the current season, which is the Fourth of July, so we’re looking at November. He says it will be in “colder weather,” which would imply snow, which is certainly possible in November in Pittsburgh, and would be a departure from the first two seasons. You’ve got to change something up, and it’s certainly not going to be the location.

Past that, star Noah Wyle has been asked about the controversial exit of Supriya Ganesh’s Dr. Samira Mohan, who will not return in season 3, seemingly departing the show for good.

“It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” Wyle told Variety. “Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously, Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”

Wyle also says he’s aware of how mad certain corners of the internet are at how he (“he”) treats Dr. Mohan on the show, thanks to his kids relaying the information. There has been a pretty strong reaction to Dr. Mohan’s exit, with many fervent fans saying there must be some sort of behind-the-scenes drama (with no evidence) about why this is happening, rather than The Pitt setting up a two season arc where Mohan figures out very clearly that the ER is not the right place for her as she departs for a fellowship (it’s frequently recommend she go into Geriatrics).

Frankly, it’s amazing The Pitt hasn’t lost more of its cast due to the usual in-and-out of doctors, especially in real ERs. The fact that the young grouping of Santos, Javadi, Whitaker and King all managed to stay is a miracle, and they will once again be here for season 3, barring any surprise, Mohan-like announcements.
