You would think that the second season of a multi-Emmy-winning series starring some of the most popular actors in the field would gain a lot of traction when it arrives. But for Beef season 2? Something has gone very wrong, it seems.

A show will not appear on Netflix’s top 10 list the day it arrives, but the list resets a day later, and that’s where you can see where it lands. Well, today, Beef is at the #10 spot, barely making the list at all. What is on the list?

1) Trust Me: The False Prophet – A cult documentary

2) Big Mistakes – The new Daniel Levy comedy

3) Temptation Island – The sexy reality show

4) American Godfather: The Five Families – A mafia documentary

5) Salish and Jordan Matter – I’m not even sure what this is, some sort of prank show starring kids

6) Trevor Noah: Joy in the Trenches – A stand-up special

7) Million Dollar Secret – A strategic competition show

8) Bandi – A French drama about a young drug dealer

9) Sitting Bull – A documentary about the famed Native American

10) Beef – A second season of a show that won Best Limited Series, Best Actor and Best Actress for season 1, starring three-time Oscar Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan, Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac and Golden Globe nominees Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton.

I really don’t know what’s going on here. Granted, Beef may not have needed another season, but turning it into an anthology with the original showrunner and a cast this good should be attracting more viewers. Maybe Netflix just didn’t market it enough, and it’s about to shoot up the ranks from here. It’s not like the second season is bad either. No, it doesn’t have the near-perfect scores of the first season, but its 87% is still great.

We’ll see if Netflix tries to push it more. It’s the top banner on my current homepage, though obviously that’s tailored to me, and advertising it as #10 on the top 10 list, so this isn’t some error.

Sometimes things just slip through the cracks on Netflix, but not really for a show that should be this high-profile. Given that it’s no longer a limited series, I’m not sure it’s on deck for a bunch more award nominations in the coming year, but still, it likely deserves a watch by fans of the first one, and we’ll see if it can do any better in the coming week once more people realize its out. But the buzz you might imagine should be there just isn’t right now.
