Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a lovely start.
I joined a few new Discord communities recently that led me to rethink how I communicate based on the space I’m in. In our Connectors Corner Discord (more on that in a second), I previously wrote in a slightly more formal manner with proper sentence case, as I do on Bluesky and when writing stories for work, such as this one.
But I’m a millennial. I grew up in chatrooms. Capital letters were alien in those spaces. I almost never used them, even though I refrained from textspeak. Nor do I really use capital letters in the Slack channels I spend all day in at work.

So rather than remembering which Discord communities I use sentence case in and which I don’t, I decided to make things a little easier for myself and go all lowercase, all the time, except for proper nouns and when there might be some confusion (i.e. “us” vs. “U.S.”).
This is of no consequence to anyone at all other than me. But these are the kinds of issues that plague my mind on a daily basis. And now you know another little thing about me.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, June 23 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!
Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT’s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.
Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that’s what you have to figure out.
There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs – part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.
As with Wordle and similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too.
Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow – correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge.

I am far too online for my own good, so I got the blues right away. The yellows were up next after I figured that there weren't quite enough NATO phonetic alphabet words to form a group alongside FOXTROT.
I’m glad I drew a link between HOTEL and TOKEN being Monopoly things, because I would not have stood a chance with the purple group. I'll sheepishly take a 478th win in a row and get out of dodge.
