Fable
Microsoft
Over the course of the past 48 hours, there have been some viral rumblings that Xbox’s Fable, its biggest game of the year and potentially a couple of years, was “internally delayed” and seemed more likely to come out in 2027, rather than its promised fall 2026 release window.
Well, it appears those behind the game and/or Microsoft itself wanted to erase that story, and they did so simply by having the official Fable account reply to an excited fan, reiterating that release window. Unless, I suppose, social is totally disconnected from what’s going on internally, which would be a reach:

If that holds, Fable will now have to dance around the GTA 6 release date of November 19. Putting the game out early would mean less time for polish. Putting the game out a little later would mean getting eclipsed by GTA 6. Putting the game out after feels like it could wipe it off the map entirely, as no doubt most players will be going hard on that game through Christmas and beyond. The tough situation is why many thought a delay may be upcoming. But no. Not yet, in any case.
Fable is the revival of a beloved Xbox franchise whose last major entry, Fable 3, came out all the way back in 2010, and there have been false starts and stops since then. It’s a comedic, open-world fantasy game known for its breadth of choices, like buying up every property on the map or having children with dozens of citizens, among other, darker options.
Fable has shown a few trailers and gameplay previews at this point, where gameplay, at least, has been pretty well-received as faithful to the series’ roots. However, I do wonder if Fable has a chance to be overshadowed by the sprawling Crimson Desert, the enormous open world fantasy game that debuted with middling reviews but has received stellar fan scores for its unique and dense map, has maintained hundreds of thousands of concurrent players for a few weeks now and has sold over four million copies. Fable would have to really blow players away to be compared favorably, even if the tone is wildly different.

Despite being one of the larger Xbox IPs, Fable is in the category of having a day one release on PS5 as well as Xbox, where it will arrive for “free” on Xbox Game Pass, as all Microsoft’s first-party games have. There have been rumors that Microsoft may be considering removing Call of Duty from day one Game Pass to increase sales, but that has not been confirmed yet.
Fable is a very important game for Xbox, with its fellow IP revival, Perfect Dark, completely collapsed and signature franchise Halo on ice. We’ll see how it goes in 5-6 months. Maybe.
