Diablo 4

Blizzard

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred is the second expansion in the Diablo 4 era, arriving a year and a half after Vessel of Hatred in 2024. The double “Hatred” there reiterates the fact that this is a trilogy dealing with Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, and the two key characters of the original release (besides us, nameless hero), Lilith and Lorath, are back leading the expansion. With a few surprises in tow.

Lord of Hatred adds two new playable classes as opposed to Vessel’s one, the brand new Warlock and the return of the Paladin, about as polar opposite in theme as you can, one summoning demons, one summoning the holy light of heaven. But both killing all the same stuff. Enemy of my enemy, and all that.

I’ve already played Lord of Hatred, putting in about 40 hours on the review server, and I liked it quite a bit, giving it an 8.5/10. Here’s an excerpt:

“I don’t know if Lord of Hatred is enough to get me hopelessly addicted to Diablo 4 again like I was at the start, but I was impressed with the campaign storyline, similarly to the original one, and I like both these new zones and the classes compared to their equivalents in Echo of Hatred. I’m not sure how transformational some of these updates truly are, and the Cube seems like the most useful, I suppose. It feels like we are stretching the limits of power creep here a bit, but that’s what new Torment Levels are for.”

My caveat here is that due to the limited review time, I wasn’t able to get deep into the highest levels of the endgame, but from what I saw in its early stages, it seems like it’s going to be fun. At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d redo those 40 hours and get back into the game for this expansion, but I found myself missing it quite a bit when it went away, and yeah, I will definitely be hopping on tonight, and probably for the foreseeable future.
