ForbesNYT Connections Hints Today: Tuesday, April 14 Clues And Answers (#1,038)By Kris Holt
Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to my deeper dive into today’s Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how today’s groups fit together.
If I’ve missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, let me know via email or on Discord. I don’t typically look at X or check the comments here.
I’m going to assume that you’ve already beaten today’s game. We’re going straight into spoiler territory here. So, consider this your one and only warning.
Here are today’s NYT Connections answers explained (and any red herrings I spot) for Tuesday, April 14:
MORE FOR YOU
🟨 things stored by a browser (BOOKMARK, CACHE, COOKIE, HISTORY)
BOOKMARKS are links to websites that you save in web browsers like Safari, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, DuckDuckGo so you can easily return to the pages later. The CACHE stores content from a webpage so that the next time you visit, it loads faster. Your HISTORY is a record of all the websites you’ve visited recently.
A COOKIE saves certain things from a webpage, such as your settings. They help you avoid having to log into your account every time you visit a certain website. However, cookies can also be used to track which websites you access, often for analytics and advertising purposes.
🟩 boxing terms (BELL, GLOVES, RING, ROUND)
In boxing (and other combat sports) a BELL rings to signal the start and end of a ROUND, as well as the end of a fight. The action takes place in a RING and the boxers wear large GLOVES to protect their hands.
🟦 tilt (LEAN, LIST, PITCH, TIP)
These are all synonyms. I’d swap today’s yellows and blues in terms of difficulty, to be honest.
🟪 free_____ (LANCE, MASON, STYLE, WAY)
Freelance describes a person who is self-employed and carries out work on a contract or casual basis. (I’ve been a freelancer for over a decade!)
A freemason is a member of a fraternal order – a bit like a fraternity for folks who are no longer at university. From my understanding, Freemasons are essentially members of social and networking clubs, which have many local orders and some traditional rituals. They do a lot of charity work in their communities.
Freestyle has several meanings. It can refer to sporting events where the competitors have a lot of freedom as to how they perform; to a swimming stroke; or to a style of improvized rap.
A freeway is a large road with a lot of lanes. They’re often used primarily by those who are travelling long distances. It’s called a motorway in the U.K.
Connections often has some red herrings. Let's take a look at today's (assuming I spotted any).

The “____ jar” red herring of BELL, MASON, COOKIE and TIP caught me out. The Bell Jar is a Sylvia Plath novel.
If you’d like to chat about today’s game of Connections and just about anything else with me and a very lovely group of people, you can do just that in our Discord community. We’d love for you to hang out with us.
I’ll be back with another set of NYT Connections hints and answers tomorrow, as well as another edition of this one, all going well. You’ll be able to find both of those on my Forbes author page when the time comes (following me there helps me out too!). As for the weekend editions of my NYT Connections hints and answers column, I’m currently doing that via my newsletter, Pastimes.
