Tao系统定位在一个基于互联网的多人在线游戏系统（MMO）上。正如它的名字所表示的（英文是“道”的意思），它的主旨是尽量构造和演绎大自然的环境和行为，从宏大的宇宙尺度到地面上的一棵草、一块石头，它尽可能通过“过程生成”、“仿生”、“分布式计算”、“数据库”等技术进行虚拟和模拟。接入系统的人（角色）与人之间或者和环境之间的交互有多种模式、空间尺度和视角。另外，Tao系统中的世界将像真实世界一样进行演化，你在不同时间地点接入将看到全新的世界。
“Tao Project”是我为业余时间制作这个游戏系统而制定的长期计划。经过多年来在3D图形图像、网络应用、游戏、AI等领域的调研，有了各方技术的支撑，吾人终于可以开始构造这样一个梦想中的世界了。
当然，“Tao”也是我名字的拼写。

"Tao system" is a Massive-Multiplayer On-Line Game (MMOG). As its name implied(means Taoism in english), its main objective is to construct or simulate the whole nature's environment and action, from universe scale to a rock or grass on the ground, through technologies such as "Real-Time Procedural World", "Bionic Computation", "Distributed computation" and "Database Tech" etc. Every one comes into this system can interact with each other or on environment with different control mode, scale and visual representations. In addition, this system will evolve in real time as same as the real world, and you will face different and novel world when you come here at different time.
Tao project is a long time plan which is made to fit my spare time. After many years' investigation on 3D graphics programming, network applications, games and AI, I finally begin to create my own dreamy world.
By the way, Tao is my first name.
