Insta360 Launches Wireless Microphone To Solve Pro Audio’s Pain Points
Mark Sparrow · 2026-05-19 · via Forbes - Innovation
Insta360 Mic Pro with DSLR setup

The new wireless mircophone system from Insta360 has a customizable E-Ink screen that can be flashed with a logo, photo or identifier using the Insta360 app.

INSTA360

Insta360 has announced the launch of the new Mic Pro, the brand’s flagship wireless microphone system aimed at content creators, filmmakers and podcasters. The Mic Pro aims to offer professional-grade audio without the complexity. The new product also introduces two industry-first technologies: a customizable E-Ink display and a triple microphone array.

The new Mic Pro has been designed to help content creators with their storytelling by capturing audio that can not only be heard but seen and personalized as well. It’s a microphone that can display a name, logo or other identity throughout a shot.

Using the Insta360 app, users can upload a graphic — such as a station logo, channel art, talent name or production identifier — to the microphone transmitters. The screen on the microphone displays the art persistently, even when the unit is powered off. On a busy set where multiple transmitters are in use, it can make a useful visual aid for identifying individual microphones.

The Insta360 Mic Pro can be used for vlogging, interviews and podcasts.

INSTA360

E-Ink Technology

Insta3650’s decision to use E-Ink technology instead of OLED was a functional as well as a distinctive one. E-Ink only consumes power when the graphic is being flashed to the screen and not when it’s just displaying the static image. This can help considerably with extending battery life, which can be important during lengthy shoots.

MORE FOR YOU

Under direct sunlight, where OLED screens can often wash out and become unreadable, E-Ink screens retain their sharpness and high-contrast without creating any glare. For outdoor productions, field recording and live events, this can be an advantage over OLED technology.

The Mic Pro’s second innovation is its triple microphone array. Conventional wireless microphones usually have just a single omnidirectional capsule. This means the pickup pattern is fixed and users can’t adapt to different acoustic environments without switching hardware completely.

Each of the Insta360 Mic Pro transmitters contains three microphones and has an E-Ink screen which can carry a logo or other identifier.

INSTA360

Three Microphones In One

The Insta360 Mic Pro integrates three microphones into each transmitter unit. Digital signal processing then dynamically combines the input of the three mics to emulate distinct polar patterns, which can be selected from the receiver or by using the Insta360 app. The result is a single device that can adapt to the environment rather than the other way around. Users can choose the correct pickup pattern for each shooting scenario.

When mounted on a camera for video shoots, the cardioid configuration works a bit like a directional shotgun mic, giving run-and-gun filmmakers a precise and front-focused audio capture without the need for additional hardware.

The Mic Pro’s Omnidirectional Mode opens the pickup area for a more relaxed and ambient capture whereas the Cardioid Mode tightens the pickup to the front and is suitable for vlogging, solo livestreams, ASMR and voiceover work. Figure-of-8 Mode captures from both the front and rear, which makes it suitable for interviews and two-person conversations.

AI noise cancellation on the Mic Pro is powered by an onboard NPU chip, designed to reduce background interference without compromising the vocal quality. Unlike standard noise reduction systems that can sometimes flatten or dull a voice, the NPU processes sound with a precision that preserves the natural tone and clarity. Wind, crowd noise and ambient interference can be reduced while voices remain clear and lifelike.

The Mic Pro wireless system consists of transmitter microphone units which feed wirelessly to a receiver unit.

INSTA360

32-Bit Float

At the core of Mic Pro’s audio is 32-bit float internal recording. Unlike conventional 24-bit recording systems that can clip when the audio exceeds a set threshold, 32-bit float captures a wide dynamic range and clipping is effectively eliminated. A whisper and a sudden shout can coexist in the same recording without either being lost.

In post-production, normalization replaces the stress of real-time gain management. In practice, this means that takes that would have otherwise been ruined by unexpectedly loud sounds can be saved, preserving one-off interviews, ceremonies and live events.

Each of the Mic Pro’s transmitter units can record sound independently on 32GB of onboard memory. This feature provides a continuous safety net against wireless interference between the transmitter and receiver unit or camera failure. Recordings auto-split every 30 minutes to prevent file size limitations from interrupting long takes.

The Insta360 Mic Pro comes with two transmitting microphones, a receiver unit and a charging case.

INSTA360

Stereo Recording

Stereo internal recording is a feature unique to Mic Pro in this class. It can be used to capture immersive and ambient soundscapes and ASMR-quality audio directly to the transmitter at up to 32-bit float quality.

For extra control, the Mic Pro has Auto Gain Control with two modes. Prevent Clipping Mode automatically handles unpredictable high-dynamic environments, while Dynamic Mode is better suited to controlled indoor recording where consistent output levels are essential.

Most compact wireless systems are limited to two transmitters per receiver unit. The Mic Pro breaks that limitation with two configurations designed for multi-source audio scenarios. There is the 4-to-1 Mode that connects four transmitters to a single receiver, feeding four isolated tracks without external mixers. Podcasters, panel moderators and interviewers can have up to four guests while retaining individual track control in post-production.

The Mic Pro receiver unit can connect via 3.5mm, USB-C or Lightning connectors.

INSTA360

Multiple Modes

The 2-to-4 Mode distributes two transmitters across four receivers simultaneously, solving audio distribution challenges when using multiple cameras. Weddings, corporate events and broadcast setups can run several cameras while sharing clean audio without complex routing or cables. Four-channel output is available when connecting to compatible Sony cameras via an optional Insta360 camera adapter, which enables 48kHz 24-bit digital audio across all four tracks.

As well as pairing with the receiver unit, the Mic Pro can also connect or pair directly with Insta360 cameras, including the X5, X4 Air, Ace Pro 2 and GO Ultra, via Bluetooth. This connection delivers 48kHz high-fidelity audio without the need for a receiver unit, eliminating another piece of hardware from the chain for content creators using the Insta360 ecosystem.

With a future firmware update, two transmitters will be able to connect directly to Insta360 cameras. Each transmitter can operate for up to 10 hours on a single charge using its built-in battery. That figure can be extendsed to 30 hours when using the system’s charging case.

The new Insta360 Mic Pro has 32-bit float recording and timecode sync via a high-precision TCXO oscillator that can maintain less than one frame of drift across 24 hours. This feature can keep the audio locked to video across every device in a multi-camera production.

INSTA360

Timecode Sync Compatibility

A 5-minute fast charge provides up to an hour of extra recording, enough time to get back to the action between setups. The receiver automatically syncs its power state with the connected host camera, while both transmitters and the receiver support auto power-off to save battery when they are not being used.

The new Mic Pro supports timecode sync via a high-precision TCXO oscillator that can maintain less than one frame of drift across 24 hours, keeping the audio locked to video across every device on a multi-camera production.

The system connects to DSLR and mirrorless cameras using a 3.5mm audio cable. With smartphones, users can use USB-C or Lightning adapters, plus the Mic Pro integrates natively with the Insta360 ecosystem using Bluetooth. It’s compatible with almost every camera, phone and recorder currently in professional use.

Pricing and Availability:

Insta360 Mic Pro is available now. The 2 TX + 1 RX kit starts from $329.99, with additional configurations available at the Insta360 Official Store and Amazon, as well as authorized distributors worldwide.
