Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: will the next folding phone have a crease-free display?

T3

If rumors prove true, the next Samsung Galaxy folding phones will be released in late July. And a new report from a respected leaker suggests that one of the most irritating things about a folding smartphone — the visible crease down the middle of the screen — will be “significantly improved.”

The report comes in posts on X from Ice Universe. “The crease control on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is just as impressive as that of the OPPO Find N6,” they said, referring to the phone which is considered to have the least obtrusive crease of any folder right now.

Then, when another post pointed out that the leaker had previously commented on the crease by saying, “it doesn’t improve much,” Ice Universe replied with a further detail.

“Yes, this is the first test version, and the last new version has significantly improved the crease,” they added.

The Race for A Crease-Free Display

This is an interesting time for Samsung to upgrade the crease, for two reasons.

First, it’s thought that a nearly crease-free folding phone has been Apple’s aspiration for its first foldable, thought to land this September and possibly called the iPhone Ultra.

Second, during CES in Las Vegas back in January, it was reported that Samsung had a demo called Advanced Crease-less, though it wasn’t on display for long.

Could that display be the one the 2026 folding phones will sport? Since the Oppo phone has attracted so much attention for bringing something to market already, the pressure is on the Korean brand to deliver something that matches or beats it.

Will The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Feature A Privacy Display?

What’s not clear is whether either the internal or external screens on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have the unique Privacy Display that Samsung introduced in this year’s Galaxy S 26 Ultra.

Previously, Ice Universe had commented on this in the same post where they said the crease wouldn’t change much. At that point, they said that there would be no Privacy Display.

Since they’ve changed their mind about the crease, could the Privacy Display come as well? All will be revealed in the coming months.
